January Summary!

A fantastic January for Thanet Swim Club

The year started with Thanet Swim Club taking home a bumper crop of medals at the aptly named Icebreaker Gala at Canterbury. Thanet took home 27 Golds, 20 Silvers and 17 Bronze medals. The Squad of 39 swimmers put on a great performance with many obtaining personal bests. Outstanding achievers were 16-year-old Charlotte Davies who won 5 gold medals and obtained a National Qualifying Time in the 400IM (5.00.92), 12-year-old Kyriacos Papa-Adams who won 6 Golds, and 11-year-old Jordan Brett who won 4 Golds.

The Portsmouth Blue Ribbon Long Distance race on 23 January produced some excellent swims, despite a warmer than usual pool. 16-year-old Kelly Henson gained National Qualifying times in both the 800 Freestyle and 400 Freestyle races. The squad of 8 produced an impressive 10 South Eastern Regional Qualifying times between them.

The following weekend saw 4 of the Squad travel up to Sheffield for the Burns Meet. Thanet Swimmers; Charlotte Davies, Louise Gates, Holly Ralfe and 11-year-old Jordan Brett achieved an outstanding 9 National Qualifying Times between them. Charlotte Davies swam an excellent 2.21.12 for the 200 Fly which gains her a place at the British Senior (Commonwealth Games Trial) which takes place 18/21st August.

Over the last two Saturday’s of January, 23 of the Thanet Swim Club squad represented the Club and their Thanet Schools at the Kent Secondary Schools Gala in Gillingham. The Squad gained 5 Golds (Lauren Joy, Maisie Cope, Louise Gates, Jake Davies and Matt Fitt) and a further 6 Silver/Bronze medals. The 11 finalists who finished on the podium now go on to represent the County in the Kent v Surrey schools gala on the 19th March.
