Jade Wins County and South East Crown's

Thanet Swim Club's Jade Henson, who recently turned 15 years old, has had a fantastic week in her first starts in the Open Water season. A week ago Jade went for a first outing in the Open Waters when she earned herself a much deserved Gold medal in the Junior age group at the Brighton Pier to Pier race over a 1750m course. Jade was also 2 nd overall in the Open ladies, only seven seconds behind the 19 year old ladies winner and even finished 5 th overall out of all entrants (including the men) with a fabulous time of 18mins 43secs.

It proved to be a great warm up for the South East ASA Region and Kent County ASA Championship's race at Southsea Beach in Portsmouth, Hampshire which is better known as the ‘Pier to Pier' races. The course is 3km (approx. 1.9 miles) long and is swum between Clarence Pier and the South Parade Pier.

With the water conditions seeming quite rough, the competitors set off in the Senior and Junior races together in what was to be a true test of their ability. Jade showed enormous reserves on stamina to keep up a fast pace throughout the whole gruelling race. Jade came in to win the South East Region ASA Crown for the Junior 17/under Girls as well as the Kent County ASA Crowns for both the Open and Junior Age Groups.

Next on the calendar for Jade will be the National Age Groups Open Water Championships on the 19 th August which is held at Holme Pierrepont in Nottingham where she will compete in a 1750m race in the 15/16 year age group.
