Bexley Open 2006

Twenty Two swimmers from Thanet Swim Club went to the Crystal Palace National Sports Centre over the weekend to compete in the Bexley Level 2 Licensed Long Course 2006 Open Meet and returned with 2 Bronze medals as well as a further 9 top six finishes.

15 year old, Sharnie Clements had a great weekend. Competing in the 15/16 year age group, Sharnie excelled when winning her Bronze Medal in the 100m Breaststroke, earning her the 4 th place spot in the Open section as well. In the 200m Breaststroke Sharnie also claimed 4 th place. 10 year old Joshua Bradford, competing in his only event of the weekend, made his trip worthwhile when he won a Bronze Medal in the toughest of races, the 400m Individual Medley, made even harder by virtue of this being a 50m pool.

13 year old Lacey Palmer, competing in the 13/14 year age group, also had a hugely successful weekend. A 4 th place in the 100m Backstroke and 6 th place finishes in both the 50m and 100m Freestyle were impressive but more so in that Lacey was 0.4 secs outside a National qualification time in the 50m race and 0.9 sec outside in the 100m race. Another swimmer edging very close to a first National time is Evie Bunte. In a very strong 200m Freestyle race, 11 year old Evie got within 1 second of the 12 year olds national time she will need, earning a 7 th place finish in the 11/12 year age group.

There were more impressive performances from 13 year old Louise Gates. In the 400m Freestyle, Louise gained the 4 th place finish in the 13/14 year age group, edging even closer to the national qualification time. Louise also came 6 th 200m Breaststroke. 14 year old Jade Henson, claimed two 5 th place finishes, coming in the 100m Butterfly and 400m Individual Medley races.
