Thanet Swim Club sent 32 swimmers to the Black Lion Leisure Centre in Gillingham to compete in the 2 nd Black Lion Open Level 2 Licence Meet and the Seahawks claimed a staggering 17 Gold, 12 Silver and 12 Bronze medals as well as a further 36 top six medal finishes, setting 7 new Club Records and 89 new personal best times. Those statistics went on to earn the Seahawks squad the Top Club trophy at the Gala. There was news too that two swimmers from the club had received selection honours to top off a great week for the Seahawks. Dominic Matthews (10) came away with a new PB and a top 5 place in all 8 of his races including 4 Gold Medals and a Bronze, perfect timing to hit good form for the run up to the South East Region Bagcat championships. Dominic claimed the Gold Medal in the 50m (38.56secs) and 200m (2mins 53.92secs) Backstroke, 200m Freestyle (2.34.98) and 200m Breaststroke (3.29.70) in the 10/under age group. His Bronze Medal came in the 200m Butterfly (3.16.25) and he also claimed a 4 th place in the 50m Breaststroke (47.08) and 5 th place finishes in the 50m Butterfly (40.51) and 50m Freestyle (34.18secs). Evie Bunte (14) was on the medal trail as she finished with top 3 places in all five of her events. Evie won the Gold medal in both the 100m (1.09.80) and 200m (2.27.00) Backstroke in the 13/14 year age group and followed that with Silver medals in both the 200m Individual Medley (2.31.18) and 400m Freestyle (4.35.80) and claimed a Bronze Medal in the 100m Freestyle (1.03.13). Lacey Palmer (15) was another Double Gold Medallist as she took the 200m Backstroke Open Age group title (2.23.66), setting both 15/16 year Girls and the Open Age group new Club Records and then claimed her 2 nd Gold Medal in the 100m Backstroke (1.07.56). Lacey also became a Double Silver Medallist in the Open Age groups in the 50m (28.66) and 100m (1.00.77) Freestyle races.
Chloe Thorpe (13) produced Double Gold as she claimed first place in both the 100m (1.19.75) and 200m (2.51.87) Breaststroke in the 13/14 year age group. Chloe also claimed a 5 th place medal in both the 200m (2.17.49) and 400m (4.43.82) Freestyle. Louise Gates (15) was another Double Gold Medal winner when she claimed top spot in the Open Age group in both the 50m (37.03) and 100m (1.17.54) Breaststroke. Louise also took the 5 th place medal in the 50m Backstroke (34.49) and the 6 th place medal in the 200m Backstroke (2.35.65). Grace White (10) also hit Double Gold, claiming the 200m Butterfly (3.34.47) and 50m Freestyle (34.17) in the 10/under age group. Grace also won the 5 th place medal in the 200m Backstroke (3.05.40) and 6 th place medals in both the 50m Backstroke (41.31) and 200m Freestyle (2.46.49). Another 10 year old, Laura Craig , was a Gold Medallist in the 200m Freestyle (2.39.53) in the 10/under age group and followed that with a Bronze Medal in the 50m Backstroke (39.73). Charlotte Davies (14) only entered one event with one aim in mind. The 100m Butterfly (1.05.77) not only gave her the Gold Medal in the 13/14 year age group and a new Club Record in 13/14 year age group but also secured her 3 rd National Qualifying Time for the National Youth Championships in the summer. Another 14 year old, Samantha Woodbridge , also only swam in one event and she too claimed a Gold Medal in the 13/14 year age group in the 400m Freestyle (4.35.74). Jordan Brett (9) swimming in the 10/under age group, produced some astonishing swims as he claimed 4 new Club Records. Jordan's efforts earned him Silver Medals in the 200m Butterfly (3.08.01) and 200m Freestyle (2.35.35), both of which set new 9 year Boys Club Records, with his third Silver coming in the 50m Backstroke (39.32). Jordan also claimed a Bronze Medal in the 50m Breaststroke (46.98) to also set a new Club Record and made his 4 th Club Record in a time trial for the 400m Freestyle (5.42.07). He completed his tally with a further two 6 th place medals, in the 50m Butterfly (41.25) and 50m Freestyle (34.45). Joshua Dunk (10) won Double Silver as he took the Silver Medals in both the 50m Breaststroke (46.85) and in the 200m Backstroke (2.54.34) in the 10/under age group. Joshua also claimed a Bronze Medal in the 50m Butterfly (39.07) and the 4 th Place Medal in the 200m Freestyle (2.37.78) making PB's in all four races. Tyler Turner (13) claimed Double Silver in the 13/14 year age group as she won the Silver Medals in both the 50m (39.50) and 200m (2.55.32) Breaststroke races. Tyler also won a Bronze Medal in the 100m Breaststroke (1.23.18) and finished off with the 5 th place medal in the 200m Individual Medley (2.38.56) and the 6 th place medal in the 200m Freestyle (2.19.93). Keiron Piper (15) won a Silver Medal in the Open Age 200m Freestyle (2.02.56) and claimed a 4 th place medal in the 400m Freestyle (4.17.11). Edward Kirkpatrick (10) won a Silver Medal in the 200m Individual Medley (3.09.26) in the 10/under age group and also claimed three 4 th place medals, coming in both the 50m (39.57) and the 200m Butterfly (3.20.06) and also in the 200m Breaststroke (3.51.94). Libby Henson (13) was a Triple Bronze Medal winner in the 13/14 year age group with her swims in both the 200m (2.15.31) and 400m (4.37.24) Freestyle and in the 200m Backstroke (2.30.42). Libby also won a 4 th place medal in the 100m Backstroke (1.12.76) and a 5 th place medal in the 200m Breaststroke (3.07.02). Oliver Barton (10) claimed Double Bronze in the 10/under age group as he took the Bronze Medals in both the 200m Freestyle (2.37.56) and in the 200m Individual Medley (3.11.01), both in new PB's. Gabe Drew (9) also claimed a podium spot with a Bronze Medal in the 10/under age group in the 200m Breaststroke (3.48.18) and also won a 5 th place medal in the 50m Breaststroke (48.97). 4 th Place Medals were won by Grace Fright (16) 50m Breaststroke (40.70), Lewis Cox (12) 50m Backstroke (37.81), Maisie Cope (12) 200m Butterfly (3.08.27) and Ben Pond (12) 100m Butterfly (1.23.21). 5 th Place Medals were won by Ben Pond (12), who won a total of four 5 th place medals coming in the 200m Butterfly (3.05.37), 50m Backstroke (38.76) and the 50m (31.89) and 200m (2.24.77) Freestyle. Grace Fright (16) 100m Breaststroke (1.29.07), Lewis Cox (12) 100m Backstroke (1.22.70), Milly Henson (15) 50m Breaststroke (40.73) and Tyler Cox (10) 200m Breaststroke (4.06.66). 6 th Place Medals were won by Alex Wilmshurst (9) in the 200m Backstroke (3.11.81) and also by Alex Kirkpatrick (12) in the 400m Freestyle (5.36.09). 89 new Short Course personal best times were achieved by Dominic Matthews (8), Lewis Cox (6), Alex Wilmshurst (5), Evie Bunte (5), Jordan Brett (5), Joshua Dunk (4), Edward Kirkpatrick (4), Emmie Drew (4), Maisie Cope (4), Oliver Barton (4), Philip Kearney (4), Ben Pond (4), Alex Kirkpatrick (4), Gabe Drew (3), Tyler Cox (3), Tyler Turner (3), Libby Henson (2), Laura Craig (2), Lauren Garrod (2), Courtney Bowyer (2), Louise Gates (2), Ebony James, Amy Giles, Juliet Landeman, Keiron Piper, Grace White, Chloe Thorpe, Samantha Woodbridge, Charlotte Davies and Lacey Palmer. Thanet swimmers then received news that Charlotte Davies had been selected to swim for the Kent County ASA in the 45 th International SwimFest Meet in Darmstadt, Germany in early July. Charlotte is one of only 8 Girls and 8 Boys, selected from their performances in the Open Age group at the County Championships in March, to represent the County at the open air 50m pool meet and she will compete in 4 events over 3 days. News of another selection was then received by Lacey Palmer who has been selected by the South East Region ASA to attend a specialist Front Crawl training camp to be held at the Garrison 50m pool, Aldershot in June, based on her performance at the South East Region ASA Youth Championships in early May.
