More National Qualifiers for Seahawks

The South East Region ASA 2008 Youths finalised their championships at the Garrison 50m pool in Aldershot, Hampshire with the postponed 1500m Freestyle races taking place on Saturday and this was then followed by the Berks & Bucks ASA holding a ‘No Frills' meet to give another opportunity to gain Regional Bagcat and National Championship entry times. No Frills is a term used where there are no medals awarded as the gala is geared solely for recording swim times.

The Seahawks had a two swimmers competing at the final SER championship event and their efforts added a further 2 Silver Medals and 2 National Youth Championship qualifying times to the Seahawks best ever tally from the championships gained the previous weekend.

14 year old Kelly Henson put on a real show as she recorded a long course time of 18mins 01.50secs to claim the Silver Medal in the 14/15 year age group in a time that put her an astonishing 23 seconds inside the qualifying mark for the National Youth Championships later this summer. 15 year old Keiron Piper also claimed a podium spot, winning a Silver Medal in the boys 15/16 year age group with his time of 17mins 40.15secs. Keiron's time was a little way off the National time for the 1500m but there was a reason behind that. He had planned all along to aim for the 800m Freestyle National Time and hit that mark pretty much spot on as he recorded 9mins 11.81secs during the 1500m race to claim his 800m Freestyle National Qualifying Time.

With the South East Region championships concluded, the pool was then host to a follow-on meet held by the Berks & Bucks ASA as a No Frills meet. A further 7 Thanet swimmers were there to compete with targets of achieving or getting closer to National and Regional Bagcat times.

14 year old Samantha Woodbridge stormed off at a fast pace in the girls 200m Freestyle and turned at the first 100m of the race in 1min 05.02secs, to then come in to finish in a staggering 2min 12.74secs, nearly 0.75secs inside the National Youth qualifying time gaining her a third entry for the summer championships in Sheffield. That new PB also gained her a new 13/14 year and Open age Club Records and was recorded as a 1 st place in both the 14 year girls and Open age groups.

Samantha also recorded a 1 st place in the 14 year girls and 2 nd place overall in the 100m Freestyle when she recorded 1min 02.27secs just 0.16secs outside the national mark. In the 100m Backstroke she claimed 3 rd place in the 14 year girls with a time of 1min 12.97secs.

He claimed 2 nd Place in the 11 year boys with his time of 5mins 01.66secs which also improved his automatic South East Bagcat championships entry time. Billy-Ray followed that with two further 3 rd place finishes, coming in the 200m Freestyle in 2mins 27.69secs and late in the day in the 200m Backstroke in 2mins 49.37secs.
