Thanet Swim Club had 35 swimmers competing in The Dover & Canterbury Icebreaker Class 2 Designated Open Meet at the Kingsmead Leisure Centre in Canterbury over the weekend and succeeded in bringing back 6 Gold, 4 Silver and 6 Bronze medals whilst also achieving a further 26 Top Six medal finishes, 44 South East District championship and 35 Kent County championship qualifying times, 52 new Personal Best times including 3 new Club Records. The competition ran from the Friday evening right through until late Sunday evening and included some notable successes for the Thanet swimmers. One of those was 12 year old Jack Little, who found his way to podium several times over the weekend. Jack earned himself 2 Gold's and 3 Bronze medals and there would have been another Gold if he had been available to stay for the final of the 100m Butterfly where in the heats he was by some distance the fastest qualifier. The Gold's came in the 50m and 100m Freestyle finals both in impressively fast times. His Bronze medals were won in both the 200m and 400m Freestyle and also in the 200m Individual Medley. Another swimmer to hit form over the weekend was 10 year old Tyler Turner who came away with two Gold medals for her efforts. Tyler had her first success in the 100m Breaststroke knocking over five seconds off her previous best time to take the Gold. Tyler's second Gold was in the 200m Breaststroke. Another 10 year old, Joshua Bradford earned Gold as well with a great race in the 200m Butterfly. Katy Little completed the haul of Gold medals when she won the 15 & over 100m Butterfly title. Katy also broke the Club record for the 200m Freestyle. Jade Henson was in amongst the medals again, this time winning 2 Silver medals. 14 year old Jade's medals came in the 400m Individual medley and the final of the 100m butterfly. 12 year old Milly Henson showed her versatility when she won a Silver medal in the 200m Individual Medley and a Bronze medal in the 200m Backstroke. Sharnie Clements had a record breaking time in her 200m Breaststroke race. Not only did she win the Silver medal in the 15 & over event but also set a new Club Record for both the 100m and 200m mark. Jake Benfield kept up his recent run of success and came away with a Bronze medal in the 10 year boys 200m Breaststroke while 13 year old Louise Gate rounded off the medals when she won Bronze in a gutsy 400m Individual Medley race. There were a further 26 Top Six medal position finishes. Fourth Place medals went to Katy Little (2), Joshua Bradford (2), Milly Henson, Louise Gates, Jade Henson, Elisha Kennett, Jake Davies and Evie Bunte. Fifth Place medals went to Milly Henson, Louise Gates, Jake Benfield, Hannah Raven, Ashley Thorpe, Tyler Turner and Charlotte Davies. Sixth Place medals went to Joshua Bradford (2), Jake Benfield, Rachel Cunard, Ben Pond, Amy O'Connor, Sam Woodbridge, Matthew Fitt and Aaron Clements. The Thanet swimmers made a total of 52 new personal best times achieved by Jack Little (5), Aaron Clements (4), Sam Woodbridge (4), Charlotte Davies (3), Evie Bunte (3), Kirsty Thorpe (3), Leah Cunard (2), Lacey Palmer (2), Libby Henson (2), Sharnie Clements (2), Grace Fright (2), Mollie Raven (2), Elliott Mead (2), Louise Gates (2), Joshua Bradford (2), Ashley Thorpe (2), Matthew Fitt (2), Elisha Kennett, Jake Davies, Jake Benfield, Milly Henson, Daisy Cotton, Tyler Turner, Ben Pond and Duncan Fitt with good swims as well from Chloe Thorpe, Billy-Ray Palmer, Nick Brown, Isaac O'Connor and Charlie Frame-Evans. Thanet Swim Club are now training hard for the Kent County Championships which start in mid February and last until mid March. The club have a record number of entries at this year's championships, which is a result of the work by the coaching staff and the dedication and effort of the swimmers.
