Seahawks ‘Smashing' at IceBreaker The Seahawks from Thanet Swim Club had 47 swimmers competing in The Dover & Canterbury Icebreaker Designated Level 1 Open Meet at the Kingsmead Leisure Centre in Canterbury. The competition ran from the Friday evening right through until late Sunday evening and the Thanet swimmers had their best ever results with a massive improvement on any of the previous year's results when this time they won 14 Gold, 11 Silver and 18 Bronze medals whilst also achieving a further 49 Top Six medal finishes, 107 Kent County championship qualifying times and 96 new Personal Best times, including 10 new Club Records. Jordon Brett , who only turned 9 years old 5 days earlier, had some exceptional performances over the weekend. Jordon, who is in the Seahawks Junior Squad, claimed a top four finish in all 6 of his events, including 3 Gold Medals. In the 200m Backstroke, Jordon won the Gold Medal in a time of 3mins 01.71secs which set himself new personal best times at not only the 200m but also the 50m and 100m marks and set new 9 year Boys Club Records for both the 100m and 200m Backstroke. Jordon claimed his second Gold Medal in the 200m Individual Medley setting a new PB in 3mins 09.79secs. In the 200m Freestyle he set new PB's at both the 100m and 200m marks and claimed his third Gold Medal in a time of 2mins 46.76secs. Jordan was on the podium again when he claimed a Silver Medal in the 50m Freestyle setting another PB in a time of 36.15secs. He also claimed a new Club Record in the 200m Breaststroke where his time of 3mins 37.88secs earned him 4 th place. Jordon claimed another 4 th place in the 200m Butterfly in 3mins 25.83secs. 10 year old Kyriacos Papa-Adams was another top performer over the weekend. Competing in an exhausting schedule of 10 events, Kyriacos further added to that schedule by making the finals in 4 of the events and claimed a top six spot in 7 of his events and set 6 new Club Records. He claimed the top spot and Gold Medal in the 100m Breaststroke final with an impressive new PB of 1min 29.42secs setting a new 10 year Boys Club Record. Kyriacos claimed the Silver Medal in the 400m Individual Medley where in another new PB of 5min 56.48secs, he claimed another Club Record. In the 200m Breaststroke he set two new Club Records coming at both the 100m and 200m marks as he claimed the Silver Medal in 3mins 07.67secs. Kyriacos was on the podium again in the 200m Individual Medley when he won the Bronze Medal, setting a new Club Record in 2mins 49.06secs. He also set a new Club Record in the 200m Backstroke with a time of 2mins 53.55secs. 15 year old Keiron Piper was a Triple Gold Medallist at the weekend. Keiron kicked off with a staggering performance in the 800m Freestyle where yet again he produced a sub 9 minute performance taking the Gold in a time of 8mins 54.56secs. Keiron took the Gold again in Freestyle in the 400m with 4mins 19.55secs and completed his hat-trick in the Freestyle, this time taking the 200m race in 2mins 05.04secs. 13 year old Evie Bunte was a double Gold Medallist as she claimed the top spot in the 800m Freestyle in 9mins 48.60secs. Evie won her second Gold Medal in the 100m Backstroke with a time of 1min 11.02secs. Evie then won a Silver Medal in the 100m Freestyle final in 1min 04.68secs and completed her haul with a Bronze Medal in the 200m Individual Medley in 2mins 35.77secs.
Charlotte Davies ,14, hit the podium three times as she claimed the Gold Medal in the 200m Individual Medal exactly matching her PB in 2mins 27.92secs. Charlotte made it double Gold when she won the 100m Butterfly with a great performance in the final recording a new PB of 1min 08.09secs. Charlotte also won a Bronze Medal in the 400m Freestyle again with a new PB of 4mins 39.39secs. Another 13 year old, Libby Henson , had some great swims as she claimed five top 3 medals. Libby claimed the Gold Medal in the 400m Freestyle in a new PB of 4mins 39.54secs. Libby was also a triple Silver Medallist as she claimed 2 nd place in the 200m Backstroke in 2mins 31.55secs, the 200m Freestyle in 2mins 17.42secs and the 100m Backstroke in 1min 11.06secs. She was also a Bronze Medal winner in the 400m Individual Medley in a new PB of 5mins 27.96secs. Samantha Woodbridge , 14, won the Gold Medal in the 50m Freestyle final, recording 28.65secs and also claimed the Bronze Medal in the 100m Freestyle final in 1min 02.18secs. 15 year old Louise Gates was also a Gold Medallist as she claimed the top spot in the 200m Breaststroke in a time of 2mins 49.19secs. 15 year old Lacey Palmer was a double Silver Medallist as she claimed the Silver's in the 100m Backstroke in 1min 07.74secs and in the 50m Freestyle recording 28.57secs. Lacey also claimed the Bronze Medal in the 200m Backstroke in 2mins 28.88secs. Sharnie Clements , 17, was a Silver Medal winner in the 100m Breaststroke in 1min 20.57secs and followed that with a Bronze Medal in the 50m Freestyle recording 29.17secs. 11 year old Billy-Ray Palmer won the Silver Medal in the 400m Freestyle with a new PB of 5mins 07.17secs. There was another Seahawks Junior Squad member was breaking records. 9 year old Edward Kirkpatrick claimed a new Club Record in the 200m Butterfly as he set a new PB of 3mins 25.17secs to take the Bronze Medal. Edward made it Double Bronze as he claimed his spot on the podium for a second time as he recorded a new PB of 3mins 20.45secs in the 200m Individual Medley. 13 year old Chloe Thorpe was also a Double Bronze Medallist as she claimed 3 rd place in both the 400m Freestyle in 4mins 50.96secs and in the 100m Breaststroke in 1min 22.08secs. 18 year old Lucy Dray also won Double Bronze as she claimed hers in the 100m Breaststroke in 1min 22.44secs and in the 200m Breaststroke in 2mins 58.99secs. Ashley Thorpe , 16, claimed the Bronze Medal in the 200m Freestyle in a new PB 2mins 09.98secs while 17 year old Rebecca Kearney took the Bronze in the final of the 100m Backstroke in a time of 1min 14.16secs. Another Bronze Medal winner was 11 year old Ben Pond in the 50m Freestyle with a new PB of 31.90secs. 9 year old Kristyana Papa-Adams also took the Bronze Medal, claiming hers in the 200m Individual Medley in 3mins 25.13secs and 12 year old Tyler Turner also won a Bronze Medal, hers coming in the 200m Breaststroke in 3min 02.44secs. There were a further 49 Top Six medal position finishes. 18 Fourth Place medals went to Charlotte Davies (2), Evie Bunte (2), Jordan Brett (2), Kristyana Papa-Adams (2), Kyriacos Papa-Adams (2), Milly Henson, Chloe Thorpe, Amy Giles, Ben Pond, Lucy Dray, Emma Dray, Joshua Dunk and Keiron Piper. 19 Fifth Place medals were won by Billy-Ray Palmer (2), Charlotte Davies (2), Grace Fright (2), Joshua Dunk (2), Harry Bradford, Ashley Thorpe, Emma Dray, Keiron Piper, Kristyana Papa-Adams, Kyriacos Papa-Adams, Louise Gates, Matthew Fitt, Nathan Woodbridge, Patrick O'Callaghan and Sharnie Clements. 12 Sixth Place medals went to Grace Fright (2), Tyler Turner (2), Jake Davies, Libby Henson, Maisie Cope, Matthew Fitt, Milly Henson, Amy Giles, Ben Pond and Chloe Thorpe. 107 Kent County Championship qualifying times achieved by Libby Henson (8), Chloe Thorpe (7), Charlotte Davies (7), Jordan Brett (7), Evie Bunte (7), Kyriacos Papa-Adams (5), Keiron Piper (5), Matthew Fitt (5), Milly Henson (4), Louise Gates (4), Lacey Palmer (4), Billy-Ray Palmer (3), Sharnie Clements (3), Tyler Turner (3), Marnie Holloway (3), Kristyana Papa-Adams (3), Joshua Dunk (3), Samantha Woodbridge (3), Ben Pond (3), Grace White (2), Jake Davies (2), Edward Kirkpatrick (2), Lucy Dray (2), Maisie Cope (2), Phillip Kearney (2), Ashley Thorpe, Joshua Bradford, Kirsty Thorpe, Amy Giles, Laura Craig, Emmie Drew, Patrick O'Callaghan and Rebecca Kearney. 96 personal best times were achieved by Jordan Brett (10), Kyriacos Papa-Adams (10), Nathan Woodbridge (7), Phillip Kearney (5), Marnie Holloway (5), Ben Pond (5), Libby Henson (4), Kristyana Papa-Adams (4), Billy-Ray Palmer (3), Charlotte Davies (3), Edward Kirkpatrick (3), Emma Dray (3), Oliver Barton (3), Emmie Drew (3), Gabe Drew (2), Louise Gates (2), Grace Fright (2), Ashley Thorpe (2), Laura Craig (2), Harry Bradford (2), Joshua Bradford (2), Jake Davies (2), Joshua Dunk (2), Nicholas Kearney (2), Matthew Fitt, Molly Dawson, Kirsty Thorpe, Maisie Cope, Patrick O'Callaghan, Rebecca Kearney, Tyler Turner and Charlie Evans with good swims as well from Alice Cook, Caitlin McCavitt, Dominic Matthews and Sophie Jacobs. Thanet Swim Club members are now training for the Kent County Championships which start in mid February and last until early March. The club have a record number of entries at this year's championships, which is a direct result of the work by the coaching staff and the dedication and effort of the swimmers.
