Thanet Swim Club had 23 swimmers in the last weekend of the 2006 Kent County ASA Championships at the Black Lion Leisure Centre in Gillingham and won a further 6 Gold, 9 Silver and 9 Bronze medals as well as a further 23 top six finishes making 2006 the most successful Kent's in the clubs history, almost doubling last year's medal tally.
Katy Little added to her Kent medal collection when she won two further Gold medals in the 15 year Girls age group. Katy was crowned County Champion in the 50m Freestyle and 200m Butterfly, in which she broke the club records for both the 15/16 year age group and the Open age group. Katy also picked up the Bronze medal in the 15 year Girls 400m Individual Medley.
Another 15 year old, Sharnie Clements had a big haul at the weekend, capped by her Gold Medal in the 50m Breaststroke when she too broke the club records for both the 15/16 year age group and the Open age group. Sharnie also gained the Silver Medal in the Open Junior section and the Bronze Medal in the Open Senior section of the 50m Breaststroke. In the 100m Breaststroke, Sharnie won the Bronze Medal and again broke both the club records for the 15/16 year and Open age group. Sharnie rounded off her excellent weekend with another Bronze Medal, this time in the 50m Freestyle.
14 year old Jade Henson had a spectacular race in the 400m Individual Medley, earning her the County Crown with the Gold Medal. In doing so, Jade broke the club records for both the 13/14 year age group and the Open age group. There was also a Silver Medal at the weekend for Jade, coming in the 200m Butterfly.
Ben Pond was out for Gold as well when he produced an Event Best Performance and new club record for 9 year old Boys as he claimed his County Crown and Gold Medal in the 50m Butterfly, breaking the 40 second barrier in the process. 13 year old Louise Gates had a busy weekend highlighted by with her Gold Medal in the 200m Breaststroke.
11 year old Evie Bunte was a triple Silver Medallist at the weekend, picking up the medals in the 200m Freestyle, the 100m Butterfly and the 200m Backstroke. Evie also won Bronze medals in both the 200m Individual Medley and 50m Backstroke. Amy O'Connor was also a Silver Medallist at the championships, coming in the 15 year Girls 400m Individual Medley.
Keiron Piper has been sidelined recently with a nagging injury but he still produced a National Championships qualifying time in the 13 year Boys 400m Freestyle where he gained the Silver Medal. Keiron doubled that when he earned a second Silver Medal in the 13 year Boys 200m Backstroke.
13 year old Lacey Palmer won the Silver Medal in the 200m Backstroke when she broke the club records for both the 13/14 year age group and the Open age group. Lacey was also a Bronze Medal winner in the 13 year Girls 50m Backstroke.
13 year old Milly Henson, came away with the Bronze Medal in the 200m Backstroke and in the 12 year age group, Charlotte Davies was another Bronze Medallist with a great effort also in the 200m Backstroke. 13 Year old Jack Little was just outside the medals when he set a new club record in the 50m Butterfly and Sharnie Clements broke the Girls 15/16 year age group record for the 200m Freestyle.
There were a further 23 Top Six Medal finishes. Fourth Place medals went to Lacey Palmer and Charlotte Davies – both for 100m Butterfly, Matthew Fitt – 100m Breaststroke, Grace Fright – 50m Breaststroke, Katy Little 200m Butterfly Open Junior and Sharnie Clements – 100m Breaststroke Open Junior.
Fifth Place medals went to Katy Little – 200m Butterfly Open Senior, Sharnie Clements – 100m Breaststroke Open Senior and 200m Freestyle, Jade Henson – 400m Individual Medley Open in both Junior and Senior sections, Lacey Palmer – 200m Freestyle, Elisha Kennett – 200m Backstroke and Amy O'Connor – 200m Butterfly.
Sixth Place medals went to Chloe Thorpe – 200m Freestyle and 200m Breaststroke, Charlotte Davies – 200m Freestyle, Louise Gates – 200m Freestyle, 200m Individual Medley and 200m Backstroke, Milly Henson – 100m Butterfly, Jade Henson – 200m Butterfly Open Junior and Aaron Clements – 400m Freestyle .
A total of 41 South East Region Championship qualifying times were gained by Louise Gates (5), Lacey Palmer (4), Katy Little (4), Charlotte Davies (4), Evie Bunte (3), Jade Henson (3), Sharnie Clements (3), Jack Little (2), Milly Henson (2), Keiron Piper (2), Chloe Thorpe (2), Elisha Kennett (2), Matthew Fitt, Aaron Clements, Libby Henson, Sam Woodbridge and Amy O'Connor.
48 new personal best times achieved coming from Charlotte Davies (5), Evie Bunte (5), Lacey Palmer (4), Jack Little (4), Elisha Kennett (4), Jade Henson (3), Sharnie Clements (3), Chloe Thorpe (2), Louise Gates (2), Matthew Fitt (2), Milly Henson (2), Grace Fright (2), Samantha Woodbridge, Kirsty Thorpe, Libby Henson, Amy O'Connor, Keiron Piper, Katy Little, Aaron Clements, Joshua Bradford, Jake Davies and Ben Pond with a good swim by Elliot Mead.
This year's medal total won by the Thanet swimmers was 15 Gold, 20 Silver and 21 Bronze with a further 52 top 6 finishes making a total of 108 medals, 3 National qualifying times , 87 South East Region Championship qualifying times, 15 new club records whilst achieving 110 personal best times.
