Seahawks Soaring Into County Stars

The Kent County Amateur Swimming Association 2008 Championships saw Thanet Swim Club produce their best ever team performance with the Boys and Girls both claiming 3 rd place in the county and their combined scores putting the Club 2 nd overall in the whole of Kent.

With an amazing 47 swimmers qualifying for the championships this year including 15 younger members from the Junior Squad, the Seahawks claimed a massive 207 medals, 2 Kent County Age Group Champions, set 5 new Event Best Performances, 32 new Club Records, a National Youth Championship qualifying time, gained 77 automatic and 30 base South East Regional Championships qualifying times and 193 new Personal Best times.

The Seahawks claimed 32 Kent County Championship Crowns this year, beating last years best performance by a further 7 titles and outstripped last years record total of 80 top three finishes by raising that record up this year to 119 podium finishes. Thanet Swim Club had 2 swimmers crowned as overall Kent County Age Group Champions. Jordan Brett won the 9 year Boys Title and Billy-Ray Palmer won the 11 year Boys Title.

9 year old Jordan Brett also set 4 new championship Event Best Performances in the 200m Butterfly, 200m Breaststroke, 200m Backstroke and 200m Individual Medley whilst fellow Junior Squad member, 9 year old Edward Kirkpatrick, also set a new championship Event Best Performance in the 100m Individual Medley. 14 year old Charlotte Davies gained her first National Youth Championship entry qualifying time with a tremendous swim in the 200m Individual Medley.

The 32 Gold Medallists who became individual Kent Age Group Champions were;

6 Gold's - Jordan Brett (9yrs) 200m Breaststroke ( EBP ), 50m Butterfly, 200m Butterfly ( EBP ), 200m Individual Medley ( EBP ), 50m Backstroke, 200m Backstroke ( EBP ).

5 Gold's - Kyriacos Papa-Adams (11yrs) 50m and 200m Breaststroke, 100m, 200m and 400m Individual Medley.

3 Gold's - Charlotte Davies (14yrs) 100m Butterfly, 200m Breaststroke, 200m Individual Medley.

3 Gold's - Libby Henson (13yrs) 100m and 200m Backstroke, 800m Freestyle.

2 Gold's - Keiron Piper (15yrs) 200m and 400m Freestyle.

2 Gold's - Billy-Ray Palmer (11yrs) 200m Backstroke, 400m Freestyle.

2 Gold's - Evie Bunte (13yrs) 400m and 1500m Freestyle.

1 Gold - Matthew Fitt (15yrs) 800m Freestyle.

1 Gold - Aleks Krunic (15yrs) 200m Backstroke.

1 Gold - Lacey Palmer (15yrs) 100m Backstroke.

1 Gold - Sharnie Clements (17yrs) 50m Breaststroke.

1 Gold - Joshua Dunk (9yrs) 200m Freestyle.

Joshua Dunk (9) 3 Silver - 50Back, 200 Back and 200IM. Jordan Brett (9) 2 Silver - 200Free and 100IM. Libby Henson (13) 2 Silver - 400Free and 400IM. Lacey Palmer (15) 2 Silver - 50Back and 50Free.

Twenty Two 6 th Place medals were won by Tyler Turner (3), Samantha Woodbridge (2), Emmie Drew (2), Ashley Thorpe (2), Keiron Piper, Patrick O'Callaghan, Libby Henson, Alex Wilmshurst, Oliver Barton, Jordan Brett, Evie Bunte, Ben Pond, Amy Giles, Chloe Thorpe, Charlotte Davies, Kristyana Papa-Adams and Louise Gates.

32 New Club Records were made during the championships by Aleks Krunic (9), Jordan Brett (6), Charlotte Davies (5), Keiron Piper (4), Grace White (2), Kyriacos Papa-Adams (2), Joshua Dunk, Jack Little, Laura Craig and Louise Gates.

The Thanet swimmers achieved 77 South East Region ASA Championship automatic qualifying times for this summer. They were Evie Bunte (9), Charlotte Davies (8), Libby Henson (8), Samantha Woodbridge (7), Chloe Thorpe (7), Lacey Palmer (5), Billy-Ray Palmer (5), Aleks Krunic (4), Keiron Piper (4), Kyriacos Papa-Adams (4), Dominic Matthews (4), Louise Gates (3), Joshua Dunk (3), Sharnie Clements (2), Tyler Turner (2), Edward Kirkpatrick and Laura Craig.
