Junior Seahawks Shine at Margate Open

 

Kingsmead Leisure Centre in Canterbury was the venue for the 24 th Margate Swimming Club Gala and Thanet Swim Club had 20 swimmers competing for honours in the 9 to 14 year old age groups with all strokes being 50m events. Between them, the Seahawks claimed 4 Gold Medals, 9 Silver Medals and 6 Bronze Medal as well as a further 20 finalists and recorded 46 new personal best times.

Top performer went to 9 year old Jordan Brett , who made all four finals and won the Gold Medal in the 50m Backstroke, Freestyle and Breaststroke but was pipped into Silver Medal spot on the 50m Butterfly by his team mate to deny him a clean sweep in the 9 year old age group.

Gabe Drew , 9, was the Gold Medallist in that 50m Butterfly race and he also won a Silver Medal in the Breaststroke final. Gabe also took 6 th Place in the Freestyle final. Oliver Barton , 10, made all four finals in the 10 year Boys as he claimed a podium spot in every race. Oliver won the Silver Medal in the finals of the Freestyle, Backstroke and Butterfly and won the Bronze Medal in the Breaststroke final.

Alex Wilmshurst (9), made the final of three events and he claimed a podium spot twice when he won the Silver Medals in both the 50m Freestyle and 50m Backstroke. Alex also claimed 5 th place in the final of the 50m Breaststroke. 14 year old Sophie Morgan made her way into three finals and climbed on to the podium after each one. Sophie won the Silver Medal in the Backstroke final and claimed the Bronze Medals in both the Freestyle and Butterfly finals.

Jasmin Jones (12) was a finalist in two of her events and won the Silver Medal in the Breaststroke final and claimed 4 th place in the Backstroke final. Joshua Bradford (13) gained a place in all four finals in his age group and claimed a podium spot in the 50m Butterfly when he won the Bronze Medal. Joshua also claimed 4 th place in the Backstroke final and 5 th place in both the Freestyle and Breaststroke finals.

9 year old Juliet Landeman , made her way through to two finals and made the podium as she won the Bronze Medal in the 50m Breaststroke final and won 4 th place in the final of the Butterfly. Another 9 year old, Daniel Jones , made some great new PB's in his races and made his way to the final of the 50m Butterfly where he won the Bronze Medal and claimed his place on the podium.

Kristyana Papa-Adams (9), made her way through to three finals and claimed 4 th place in all of them being, the 50m Freestyle, Breaststroke and Backstroke finals. Harry Bradford (9) qualified for the finals in all four of his events and claimed 4 th place in both the Backstroke and Butterfly finals as well as 5 th place in the Freestyle final and 6 th place in the Breaststroke final.

Emma Dray (14) qualified for two finals and claimed 4 th place in both the 50m Backstroke and Butterfly finals. Marnie Holloway (13) also qualified for two finals where she claimed 4 th place in the 50m Backstroke and 5 th place in the 50m Freestyle. Courtney Bowyers (9) qualified for the final of the 50m Backstroke and swam well to claim 6 th place in the final.

Between them, the swimmers achieved 46 New Personal Best times. These were made by Juliet Landeman (4), Alex Wilmshurst (4), Daniel Jones (4), Oliver Barton (4), Lauren Garrod (3), Jordan Brett (3), Harry Bradford (3), Gabe Drew (3), Ebony James (3), Joshua Bradford (3), Courtney Bowyer (2), Caitlin McCavitt (2), Jasmin Jones (2), Marnie Holloway (2), Sophie Morgan (2), Jade Jones and Aileen McCavitt. There were also good swims by Laura Craig.
