The City of Sheffield was the destination for nine swimmers from Thanet Swim Club who competed in the Rotherham Open Level 1 Licensed Long Course Meet at the Ponds Forge International Swimming Pool over the weekend and came back with a Gold, 5 Silver and 4 Bronze medals as well as a further 23 top six finishes, 2 National Qualifying Times, 3 new Club Records and 29 personal best times.

13 year old Keiron Piper has started to show signs of his National's form again and there was no hint of the injury that had hindered his season to date as he put himself through a rigorous schedule of events over the weekend in Sheffield.

Keiron started off with a new personal best time in the 200m Backstroke when he came home for the Silver medal. He followed that with another Silver Medal and a new club record for both the 13/14 year age group and the club's open age group in the 200m Individual Medley. Keiron then set a new long course personal best time in the 50m Freestyle where he claimed 5 th place in the 13 year age group.

As if that was not enough for one day, Keiron then showed he had saved his best till last when he produced his performance of the day as he cruised to a National Qualifying Time for the in the 200m Freestyle, setting himself a new personal best time and winning the Gold medal for his efforts.

Keiron set another club record for his age group in the 100m Freestyle on Sunday morning, putting a Bronze Medal into his weekend haul. A new long course personal best time and another Silver Medal were to follow in the 100m Backstroke. Then, in a repeat of Saturday's performance, he bowed out of the weekend with another National Qualifying Time, this time coming in the 400m Freestyle where he again set a new long course personal best time.

15 year old, Katy Little produced a superb start to her weekend when she gained a National Youth championships qualification time in the 100m Freestyle, gaining her a 4 th place finish in the open age group. Katy followed that up with a great effort in the 200m Butterfly when she came in to claim the Silver Medal in the Open age group. Katy made the podium again in the 100m Butterfly, this time winning the Bronze Medal in the open age group.

Another Silver Medallist from the weekend was 13 year old Lacey Palmer, gaining her medal in the 50m Backstroke with a new long course personal best time. Lacey set another long course personal best time in the 200m Individual Medley and claimed a 4 th place finish in the 50m Freestyle and a 6 th place finish in the 200m Backstroke.

14 year old, Matthew Fitt, definitely enjoys the big arena at Sheffield as he came up trumps again on this visit. Matthew came away this time with the Bronze Medal in the open age group for the 50m Breaststroke, setting himself a new long course personal best time. Matthew also set another 3 personal best times, coming in the 200m Individual Medley and both the 50m and 100m Freestyle and finished off with the 6 th place finish in the open age groups for both the 100m and 200m Breaststroke.

Charlotte Davies was also a Bronze Medallist when she claimed the 3 rd spot in the 12 year Girls 50m Butterfly event, setting herself a new long course personal best time. Charlotte narrowly missed out on a second Bronze when she came 4 th in the 200m Backstroke. Her 50m Freestyle race gained her a new personal best time and she made 6 th place finishes in both the 100m Butterfly and 200m Individual Medley, where again she set a new long course personal best time. Charlotte finished off with another long course personal best time in the 100m Freestyle.

15 year old Sharnie Clements was again involved in some close finishes which saw her just missing out on the podium. Sharnie gained 4 th place finishes in the open age group in the 50m, 100m and 200m Breaststroke races. In the 50m Backstroke, Sharnie gained 5 th place by setting herself a new personal best time and in the 50m Freestyle she had a superb finish to claim a new long course personal best time. Sharnie also set new personal best times in the 50m Butterfly and 100m Backstroke.

13 year old Jack Little was also agonisingly close to the podium when he recorded a 4 th place finish in the 50m Freestyle in a new personal best time. Jack also gained a new long course personal best time in the 50m Butterfly where he claimed 5 th place and in the 200m Individual Medley was also just outside the podium with another 5 th place finish.

12 year old Aaron Clements had a good weekend as he recorded new personal best times in the 50m Backstroke, 100m Butterfly, 200m Breaststroke and 200m Individual Medley. Aaron was also just off the podium when he claimed the 4 th place finish in the 50m Breaststroke and followed that with a 5 th place in the 200m Butterfly and a 6 th place in the 50m Butterfly.

10 year old Jake Davies had his first taste of swimming in the National 50m pool and nearly made the podium as he claimed 4 th place in the 50m Breaststroke. Jake gained a 5 th place finish in the 200m Breaststroke where he also recorded a new long course personal best time. In the 100m Breaststroke, Jake had to settle for a 6 th place finish but set himself a new personal best time with a great swim in the 50m Freestyle event.
